Learn to comfort yourself

This morning I had to get up early and have a blood test....just the routine monthly one, but slightly early as the oral surgeon I see tomorrow wanted to make sure everything was fine before operating on me.

I also talked with the nurse at my Dr's surgery today, they want me to have the flu jab, but I am so not sure about it. I didn't have it last year. I might ring the specialist and ask his opinion.

Todays NAWLS Small Bite is

Learn to comfort yourself.
The longing for someone to share your burden can be worse than head hunger. But you will not always be able to get in touch with your support system. So, you will benefit from learning to comfort and support yourself.

Can you treat yourself to an afternoon of reading alone? How about going to a yoga class or getting a pedicure? There are so many ways to comfort youself. Find what works for you.

Action for the day:
What feels really comforting to you (that isn't unhealthy)? Make a list to refer to when you are disconnected or lonely.

Don't let the hard work bother you

Okay, so I have some hard work to do if I am going to get back down to something I am happy with. My weight has been yo-yoing for some time, and I am past the upper limit that I was happy on steroids on. So I have to do something about that and I can't let the hard work bother me. I have to see it is as a challenge and met it head on.

So that is what I did, I really didn't want to get on the treadmill this morning, but I made myself do 10 mins and then I walked around to the shop to buy some yoghurt for my shakes as I had run out. Have to have yoghurt in my shake otherwise it tastes yuckky!!!! Now, I have to race to get ready to go to work, working till 8pm tonight, so food is always a bit of an issue on these days. I am aiming to have my two corn thins and tuna for lunch at aound 4pm today and then I will have my gluten free sausage with some steamed veges when I get home tonight. Tomorrow I need to have a blood test in the morning and to see my local nurse at my GP for some other stuff.

I must get my weight back down, this morning it was sitting at 112.7 kgs, which is not where I want or need it to be.

Here is today's  NAWLS Small Bite

Don't let the hard work bother you.
Many people who have WLS are surprised at the amount of work th WLS lifestyle can require. Some people resent having to watch what they eat. They mistankenly beleived prior to surgery that the procedure would take care of their food problem. A few misguided surgeons even tell their patients they are "cured"

The truth is that a healthy, rewarding life is hard work. But you decide whether it's worth it. Most thin people we know have to work at staying that way. They have to be self-disciplined, even when they don't want to be.  Successful people we see, who are living their dreams, usually have worked very hard to get to where they are. Hard work is a tool for you to use to get what you want in life. It is an opportunity. Take advantage of it.

Action for the day:
Think about one aspect of your WLS lifestyle you dislike. Now, visualize the REASON that aspect is necessary. Once you connect a difficult action with its positive goal, it becomes a little less unsavory.

So, I'm back to posting these daily and hopefully that will help me stay on track and be more motivated. I will have more updates soon on the Meet & Greet!!!

Strive for balance

The NAWLS Small Bite for May 29th is

Strive for balance
To be truly happy, you need to balance all aspects of your life: mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. If any one aspect is "off," you will feel out of sorts in all aspects. When you are tired physically, is your thinking as sharp? If your thinking is flawed, do your emotions become oppressive?

When your thinking is clear, you can more easily handle stress and your spirit is much happier. Balance is a critical component of your new life. Balance will help you maintain your weight loss.

Action for the day:
In your journal, make a heading for each aspect of your life: mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Under each aspect, how can you create more balance in your life? List three things you can do to move into balance&and then do them.

Keep head hunger in perspective

The NAWLS Small Bite for May 28th is

Keep head hunger in perspective
Is your mind convinced it needs chocolate, chips, fries, ice cream, or some other comfort food? Of course, you know you don't really need those foods. You can look at your "head hunger" as a psychological call for comfort. Maybe you are feeling depressed, anxious, or bored. Do you want to cover up or soothe your feelings with food? How else can you cope with your uncomfortable feelings?

When hunger takes hold, keep your mind distracted from food and your hands busy. In your journal, write down what you want to accomplish as a thinner and healthier person and the type of life you want to live. Then, use your vision of the new you to put your head hunger in the proper perspective. You don't have to let head hunger rule your behavior.

Action for today:
Make a list of five activities that can be alternatives to stress eating. When the next urge to graze comes along, you'll be prepared.
